Having worked up until Christmas eve I was very happy to finally get home to Norfolk for Christmas with my family. The Squire Christmas like every year was centred around huge amounts of food. Conversations consisted of “what are we having for lunch tomorrow” or “what time is supper” or “who’s eaten all the celebrations”. As soon as I got home from London I was straight into the kitchen making my signature chestnut, Marsala and pandoro cake (at the insistent request of my father)!
The following Morning (Christmas Day) I was again drawn back to the heat of the stove to help with Christmas lunch, although I admit I didn’t do much towards it- I was more focused on making pudding for my niece and nephew. Nevertheless here’s a photo of our delicious lunch, 24 hour slow roasted rare breed pork with all the trimmings.
Then came the seriously chocolatey yule log which I made for the kids, courtesy of a trusted Nigella recipe.
Full to bursting, we retreated to the sitting room to watch a full evening of Christmas tv, finishing with the final episode (sobs) of Downton Abbey.
What did Boxing day bring? It brought yet more food, cooking and indulgence in the form of a rustic pecan pie made for my brother.
And finally braised beef cheeks in red wine to end a seriously foodie Christmas.
