There has been a lot of buzz around a new Sri Lankan restaurant in soho called Hoppers, I am very happy to report that not only does it live up to the hype but it deserves a whole lot more.
A friend and I visited for a quick bite after work and stayed for what can only be described as a marathon eating session. We started with delicious coconut water and fried plantain chips with crispy curry leaves, followed by hot devilled shrimp- and my god were they hot! Then to a scrumptious duck roti with a spiced duck gravy, seriously yummy and probably the dish of the night. Then came the karis- essentially Sri Lankan curry but with such complexity of spice, sweetness and heat- utterly perfect. We had the black pork kari and the special crab kari, both great- however be warned that you will get incredibly messy trying to get the meat out of the crab!
And just because we couldn’t resist even though we were full to bursting, we had the love cake snd another dessert with rambutan which was refreshing if a little strange but lovely all the same. The love cake I would recommend every time, lightly spiced and filled with sweet cinnamon goodness!
Such a diverse meal and an experience I would not hesitate to repeat, again and again and again and… well you get the idea!
