Christmas is a time for indulgence and what better way to get in to the spirit than a delectable meal at what can only be described as so much more than a shed. My friend and I ventured to Notting Hill to try the very popular eatery owned by the Gladwin Brothers, and we were not disappointed.
We entered the restaurant through a very pretty and inviting decked front garden (which we later retreated to for a much needed digestif!) and were then led through to an intimate table for two. The service was great, the waiters were very friendly and helpful and we were offered a drink immediately. This was swiftly followed by 4 perfect mouthfuls of heaven, otherwise known as the mushroom/marmite eclair, the beetroot and goats cheese crisp and the duck liver pate on a melt in the mouth cheese sable biscuit.
Then came the warm goats cheese with sweet honeyed hazelnuts which were so deliciously addictive, I could have quite easily just eaten a bowl or two of those! This was followed by a deep and flavourful mushroom ragu with a velvety smooth celeriac puree and black truffle. Then came the best and naughtiest truffled fondue with toasted sourdough and pear- seriously unbelievably good, so so rich and the definition of indulgence.
After which the only disappointment arrived in the form of crispy sautéed duck livers which unfortunately had been overcooked, so we sent the dish back. However to the restaurants credit they immediately agreed the dish was not cooked correctly and took it off the bill. And finally two puddings- a perfectly warming pear crumble and a reinvention of a crunchie as a dessert. The crumble was the winner for me, perfectly balanced and oh so moorish.
All in all a fantastic meal, in a warm and buzzy restaurant that is so inviting and friendly you won’t want to leave.
